CJ vs Awin: Which Affiliate Network Is Better for Fashion and Ecommerce Brands?
Awin publishes its prices and absorbed ShareASale; CJ is sales-led. How they compare on publishers, commissions, returns and setup for online retailers.

If you sell fashion, footwear, beauty or other consumer products online, CJ and Awin are likely on your affiliate network shortlist. Both are long-running global networks with large publisher bases, but they are bought very differently. Awin publishes self-serve pricing and has absorbed ShareASale's programs. CJ is sales-led and quote based. This guide compares CJ vs Awin for fashion and ecommerce brands: pricing, publishers, commission tools, tracking and which one suits which kind of brand.
For more networks side by side, see our guide to choosing an affiliate network.
The short version
- Awin publishes its prices: Access is $49 a month plus a 3.5% tracking fee per transaction. CJ does not publish pricing; you get a quote.
- Awin says it connects 30K+ brands with 1M+ approved partners. CJ says it reaches consumers in over 240 countries and territories. Ask both for the publishers active in your category.
- Both let you pay different commissions by customer type and product, which matters for fashion margins and returns.
- Former ShareASale merchants are already on Awin, since the ShareASale platform closed on October 6, 2025.
- Smaller and mid-size ecommerce brands usually start on Awin. Larger retailers that want a sales-led contract and service options often shortlist CJ too.

Pricing compared
Awin is one of the few large networks that shows its prices. On Access, you set your partner commission and pay Awin a 3.5% tracking fee on each transaction, plus $49 a month. Awin's own example: on a $100 sale with a 6% commission, the partner gets $6 and Awin gets $3.50. Accelerate starts at $99 a month with a 2.5% tracking fee, and Advanced is custom priced. Awin notes that businesses without transaction values, which is common in finance and telecom, get alternative rates.
CJ does not publish pricing. Ask for setup fees, any monthly minimum, the network fee on commissions and the contract length, then model both networks on the same forecast of monthly sales. For a fashion brand, include your expected return rate, because commissions on returned orders should be reversed before they are paid. Our Awin Access guide covers the self-serve plan in more detail.
Publishers: where fashion partners actually are
Fashion programs usually lean on a mix of content publishers, stylists and creators, deal and cashback sites, and gift guides around key sales periods. The question is not which network is bigger. It is where your target partners already are.
Awin's homepage lists brands such as Adidas, Nike, Uniqlo, Clarks, On, Decathlon and Sephora among the companies it works with, which tells you fashion and beauty publishers have reasons to be there. CJ's advertiser page highlights retail expertise, including benchmarking affiliates on new-to-file rates, lifetime value and offline purchase behaviour, and in-platform influencer discovery built with CreatorIQ.
Make a list of 20 to 30 publishers and creators you want, then ask both networks which are active on their platform and in which countries. Awin is often described as strongest in the UK and Europe and CJ as strongest with established US publishers, but your own list will tell you more than any general rule. Our guides to recruiting publishers on Awin and recruiting publishers on CJ show how each network's discovery tools work.
Commission tools for fashion margins and returns
Fashion brands rarely want one flat rate. Full-price items, sale items, new customers and returning customers all justify different commissions. Both networks support that:
- CJ offers Situational Commissioning, which rewards publishers based on order attributes such as customer status, promotion type and customer location, and lets you set commission structures per partner and per promotional property.
- Awin uses commission groups, which can vary by product category, customer type, device and other tracking conditions. Access customers can have up to three groups including the default. Accelerate and Advanced customers can create unlimited groups with more conditions.
Returns matter just as much. On Awin, each tracked sale appears as a pending commission, and you review it during your program's validation period, checking whether the order was cancelled or returned before you approve or decline it (Awin commission validation). If you do nothing, commissions are approved automatically under your auto-validation settings, so set a validation period that matches your returns window. On CJ, ask how returns and cancellations are corrected and how long you have to do it. For structuring rates, see our guide to affiliate commission structures.
Tracking and ecommerce setup
Awin's tracking runs through MasterTag, a JavaScript container tag that Awin says should be added to every page of your site, including the order confirmation page. Awin also lists plugins for Shopify, WooCommerce and Adobe Commerce. CJ lists turnkey Shopify and Magento plugins and says its tracking covers devices, in-app, phone and in-store sales.
Whichever you choose, test a real order end to end before you invite publishers: click a test link, buy, then confirm the sale appears with the right value and commission.
If you were on ShareASale
Awin announced that the ShareASale platform would close on October 6, 2025, and ShareASale programs now run on Awin (Awin). So for a former ShareASale merchant the question is no longer ShareASale vs CJ, it is whether to stay on Awin or add or move to CJ. Our post on ShareASale for merchants in 2026 covers what changed.
Which is better for your brand?
- Small or growing fashion or ecommerce brand: Awin, usually on Access. Published pricing, a free first month and a three-month minimum make it a low-risk start.
- UK or European label: Awin is usually the first shortlist, but check your publisher list against both.
- Large US retailer with a loyalty and cashback mix: shortlist CJ alongside Awin and compare contracts and service scope.
- Brand that wants a managed team: ask CJ about its service options and Awin about Accelerate, where Awin says you can choose to self-manage or get expert service.
Plenty of brands run both. Read running an affiliate program on multiple networks before you do, so codes and duplicate commissions are handled from day one.
