Awin Access Explained: Affiliate Marketing for Small and Growing Brands

What Awin's entry plan includes, what it really costs with worked examples, where it is limited compared with Accelerate and Advanced, how setup works and the signs it is time to upgrade.

Awin Access is Awin's entry plan for brands: self-managed, with a published price and a short minimum term. It is the plan most smaller ecommerce brands look at first, and since ShareASale closed on 6 October 2025 it is also where many former ShareASale merchants have landed. This guide explains what Access includes, what it really costs, where it is limited compared with Awin's bigger plans, how setup works and when to upgrade.

All plan details below come from Awin's own pricing page, help centre and terms, linked in each section. For the full launch process on Awin, including tracking and recruitment, see our guide to launching an affiliate program on Awin.

The short version

  • Access is $49 a month plus a 3.5% tracking fee on each transaction in the US (£99 plus VAT a month in the UK), with the first month free and a 3 month minimum term.
  • You get the full partner directory, a simple dashboard and up to three commission groups.
  • You manage the program yourself: recruiting, approving partners, validating sales and paying on time.
  • Upgrade when you need more commission rules, automation and APIs, or someone to run it with you.

What Awin Access is

Awin describes Access as a low-cost affiliate marketing solution for businesses with an ecommerce website (Awin Access). You pay only the plan fee, a tracking fee and the commissions on sales your partners drive. Awin says Access gives you access to more than one million partners, including the former ShareASale publisher base, and that while the plan is self-managed you get guidance through emails and webinars.

In practice, Access suits brands that sell online with a clear order value, want to test affiliate marketing without a long contract, and have someone in house (or an agency) who can put a few hours a week into the program.

What it costs

Awin's US pricing page lists Access at $49 per month plus a 3.5% tracking fee per transaction, with the first month free and a 3 month minimum term. The UK page lists £99 plus VAT per month with the same 3.5% fee. The tracking fee is on top of the commission you set: Awin's own example is a $100 sale at a 6% commission, where the partner gets $6 and Awin gets $3.50.

A worked illustration using those published rates (our arithmetic, not an Awin quote):

Monthly validated affiliate salesCommission at 10%Tracking fee at 3.5%Plan feeTotalShare of sales
$5,000$500$175$49$72414.5%
$20,000$2,000$700$49$2,74913.7%

The plan fee matters most when sales are small; the tracking fee is what scales. Compare the commission plus 3.5% with your margin before choosing rates. Our guide to affiliate commission structures shows how we set them.

Awin's pricing page does not list a joining fee. The US Access terms Awin links today are dated April 2023; they define a joining fee without publishing an amount (it is set out in the application form) and a $150 fee for each reintegration of your tracking (Access terms). Because those terms are dated, check every figure in your own application form. Payment is by automated direct debit set up during the application, which Awin says cannot be changed later; invoices arrive twice a month and are collected 8 to 12 days after the invoice date (Awin help).

Limits compared with Accelerate and Advanced

Awin's feature comparison on the same pricing page sets out what you give up on Access:

Two other Access specifics from Awin's help centre: the auto-validation period, after which unreviewed sales are approved automatically, can be up to 67 days on Access and cannot be switched off (Auto-validation). And the contract runs a 3 month minimum with 14 days' cancellation notice.

The commission group limit is the one we see brands hit first. Three groups covers a default rate, a new customer rate and one category. It does not cover separate rates for individual partners, coupon codes or time-limited campaigns built as rules.

Setup walk-through

  1. Request the application. Enter your details on Awin's Access page. Awin emails a link to the application form and says to allow a few working hours.
  2. Apply. Complete company, website, invoice and direct debit details. Set your commission and validation period with your returns window in mind.
  3. Integrate tracking. Add the MasterTag to every page and the conversion tracking on your confirmation page, or use Awin's plugin for Shopify, WooCommerce or Adobe Commerce. The US Access terms (dated April 2023) ask for integration and launch within 20 days of the agreement's effective date, so have developer time ready.
  4. Test an order. Confirm the sale, value and commission group all track correctly before you invite partners.
  5. Write your terms and profile. Say which partner types you accept, your rules on vouchers, cashback and brand bidding, and what you pay.
  6. Recruit. Invite partners from the directory, bring over partners you already work with and onboard creators you know. Waiting for applications is the slowest route.
  7. Validate on a schedule. Decline cancelled and returned orders before the auto-validation period ends. Awin recommends validating at least monthly, ideally every two weeks, because it shortens your average payment time (Average payment time).

Our affiliate program launch checklist turns these steps into a week-by-week plan, and how to start an affiliate program covers the groundwork before you pick a network.

Changing your rates once you are live

Choose launch rates you can live with, because Awin limits how fast you can cut them. Its commission groups help article says partners need at least 7 days' notice of any commission change, and a reduction can be at most 20% at a time, no more than once every 30 days (Commission groups). Changes only affect new transactions: sales already tracked keep the rate that applied when they happened.

In practice, starting at a sustainable rate and raising it for partners who perform is easier than launching high and walking it back. Tell partners about any change before it takes effect, and say why. A sudden cut can cost you the content partners who invested time in reviewing your products, and on a self-managed plan there is no account manager to smooth it over.

When to upgrade

We suggest looking at Accelerate, or bringing in help, when any of these become true:

  • You need more than three commission groups, or rates by partner, coupon code or date.
  • You want API access to automate validation or reporting.
  • The program has grown to the point where the lower 2.5% tracking fee on Accelerate offsets the higher monthly fee. Run the numbers on your own volume.
  • Nobody on your team has the hours to recruit and manage partners every week.

If you are comparing Awin with other self-serve options, our impact.com pricing guide sets out how its Starter and Essentials plans are charged.
