impact.com vs CJ Affiliate: An Agency's Honest Comparison
Both are large platforms with real partner bases. impact.com publishes its plan prices and CJ quotes each program, so the way you compare them has to change.

impact.com and CJ Affiliate are two of the largest affiliate platforms, and they are often shortlisted together. They are built differently, though, and the biggest difference is not the feature list. It is how you find out what the program costs. impact.com publishes its plan prices. CJ's advertiser page lists none, so you get a quote from its sales team. That changes how you should run the comparison. For the wider field, see our guide to choosing an affiliate network.
If you are also weighing Awin, our impact.com vs Awin comparison works through the fee maths. This guide sets out what each platform offers an advertiser, where each one fits, and the questions to ask before you sign. We checked the public pricing and feature pages on the day we wrote it. Where a detail is only in a quote, we say so.
The short version
- impact.com is easier to price before you talk to anyone, and its plans bundle creators and referral partners with publishers.
- CJ Affiliate is quote-based, and its strength is its partner base and its commission rules, which can reward publishers by the attributes of each order.
- If you need a number to put in a budget this week, impact.com gives you one. If you need to see how CJ's commission rules would reward your best customers, ask CJ for a demo before you decide.
How each platform prices an advertiser program
The impact.com pricing guide explains each plan in detail. impact.com publishes four plans. Starter is self-serve and costs the greater of $30 a month or 2.5% of monthly revenue, and it is available only to brands on supported ecommerce platforms. Essentials is $500 a month and includes up to $2,500 a month in partner payouts. Pro is $2,500 a month and includes up to $14,300 a month in partner payouts. Enterprise is custom and quoted by impact.com. Each plan says what it includes, so you can see the gap between plans before you call.
CJ's advertiser page lists no prices. Our CJ Affiliate advertiser guide covers the setup. Its advertiser page describes the platform and its tools without a single price, so the cost of a CJ program is set in conversation with CJ. That is normal for an enterprise platform, but it means you should not rely on a secondhand price for CJ. Ask for the terms in writing, and ask the questions that matter most to your margin.
The questions to put to CJ are the ones that move a monthly total. Ask about setup fees and any minimum monthly fee. Ask how the platform fee is calculated, whether it sits on sale value or on partner payouts. Ask what happens to the fee when your partner payouts grow, and whether the contract has a minimum term. If the answers come back as a range, ask for the number that applies at your current sales.

Commission design: where CJ stands out
CJ's commissioning tool is its most distinctive feature for an advertiser. Its Situational Commissioning lets you build commission scenarios that reward publishers based on order attributes, such as customer status, promotion type and customer location. For a brand that wants to pay more for new customers than for returning ones, or more for a particular promotion, that control is useful. It also takes thought, because every scenario is a rule you will have to maintain and report on.
impact.com lists custom commission rates on its Pro plan. If commission design is central to your program, check which plan gives you the rules you need, and get that written into the quote.
Whichever platform you choose, decide the commission logic before you launch. A rule that is hard to explain to a publisher will be ignored by the publisher, and a rule that pays out in a way you did not intend will show up in your margin. Our guide to setting affiliate commission structures covers the decisions to make first.
Partners, creators and reach
CJ's advertiser page emphasises its partner base. It describes network-curated partnerships built around content, rising stars, new-to-network partners and top performers, and it offers a discovery tool so you can find and start relationships in the platform. Those groups are useful if you want to reach publishers who already work with brands in your category, and they help you avoid cold outreach for every partner.
impact.com's Partner Marketplace serves a similar purpose, and its plans put creator management and advocate, or customer referral, tools in one place. If your plan is built around creators as well as publishers, impact.com's packaging is the simpler way to run both on one platform.
Neither platform gets you partners by itself. Plan the outreach. Build a short list of the partners you want, brief them on your offer, and measure which groups bring in customers. A platform with a large partner base is a route to partners, not a result. Our guide to setting up an influencer affiliate program covers the creator side of this in more depth.
Support and the way the program is run
CJ's advertiser page describes an on-demand support team that answers questions across the platform, along with exclusive in-person networking events. For a larger brand with a dedicated manager, that kind of relationship matters, and it is worth asking who will own your account, how often you will meet, and who to call when a partner dispute lands on a Friday.
impact.com's support scales with the plan. Essentials includes dedicated support, and Pro adds dedicated customer success, so the level of help is written into the plan you are buying. That is easier to compare, but it means the support you need may decide the plan, not the other way round.
Where we would choose each one
We would look at impact.com first for a brand that is on a supported platform, wants to see the price before a sales call, and plans to manage creators and referral partners alongside publishers. The published plans make it easy to build a budget, and the bundle keeps the program in one place.
We would look at CJ for a brand with a large catalogue, complex commission rules, or a need for the partner groups that CJ curates. The commissioning tool is a real advantage when the rules matter, and the quote process is a sensible way to scope a larger program, provided you ask the cost questions above in writing.
We would not choose either platform on the strength of a brand name. Ask each one for a demo on your own numbers: your average order value, your typical commission rate and the partner groups you care about. A demo built on your numbers will show you the cost and the rules you would actually live with.
